In 2017, WopeCar didn’t start with a grand pitch deck or a dream to change the world. It began as something far simpler: a decision to use time wisely.

“I wanted to apply my skills as a digital marketer to something real,” says founder Yusif Seidu.

Through a personal need, he spotted a gap in Ghana’s car rental space. No single online platform made it seamless or trustworthy to rent a car. So, he built one. What started as a solo project quietly began to gain traction.

Then came the turning point.

There have been many moments,” Yusif shares, “but the one that shifted everything was deciding to bring in partners and hiring Sheena Sue Biney as General Manager.

That move didn’t just bring new leadership. It created room for others to rise, too. Her leadership has had a major impact in WopeCar’s journey as well as every other employee's contributions.

8 Years Later, WopeCar has grown. Not just in size, but in direction.

The road hasn’t been smooth. It never is. From surviving a pandemic to watching copycats emerge with similar playbooks, WopeCar has had to stay clear-headed. Many businesses shut down during COVID, but we kept going. Rather than feeling threatened by new players, he sees them as a sign

We didn’t have these competitors before. That tells me we’re doing something right.

Building More Than a Brand

Behind the scenes today, “We’re building a culture,” says General Manager Sheena Sue Biney.

One where people take ownership, think on their feet, and keep showing up even when things aren’t neat,” she continued.

From interns who now lead teams, to systems built from nothing, the transformation has been steady and shared.

People build businesses. Not ideas. Not software. People,” she says.

If your people aren’t in sync, everything else eventually collapses.”

The past couple of years after WopeCar rebranded has been a stretch and a shift. Sheena sums it up in one line:

We stopped asking if we could handle things and started owning the fact that we can.

Confidence caught up with capability. And that changed the pace of everything.

So what does 8 years mean?

For Yusif: “It feels like watching your child grow through stages. Not always easy. But it's worth it.

For Sheena:

It’s proof that small steps, even on tough terrain, can move you forward. You just have to keep walking.

What’s next for WopeCar?

Intentional growth. Building even greater capacity. Not just adding numbers, but building with purpose.

WopeCar will continue to refine its systems, explore new partnerships, and prepare to test new ideas, including electric vehicle rentals.

But for this 8, the message is simple:

We’re still building. Still learning. Still moving.

Stick with us. The road ahead keeps getting interesting.
